One of the most important tasks for a Guardian in a new season of destiny 2 increases the level of your weapons and armor. You could just equip the randomly dropped gear, but ultimately you want your favorite pieces to level up with you. That’s where destiny 2‘s upgrade modules come in.
Upgrade Modules are consumables that allow you to apply the light level of one weapon or armor to another of the same category. Helmets can improve helmets, kinetic weapons can improve other kinetic weapons, and so on.
This means that the luminous power of your gear can grow with your Sentinel, allowing you to take on increasingly dangerous foes across the solar system.
Destiny 2 Arms Dealer
The most common source of upgrade modules is one of the two weapon vendors.
Banshee-44 is in the middle area of the tower, to your right when you invite for the first time. Ada-1 Located next to the loom, down in the lower areas of the west part of the tower.
Talk to Banshee-44 or Ada-1 and you will see items for sale. Each offers two different upgrade module options in exchange for 5,000 Glimmer, 10 Legendary Shards, an Enhancement Core, and 25 of a Planetary Material.
Both vendors will offer the same two planetary material options that change daily.
If you’re missing mica or materials, pay a visit to Spider at the Reef. He sells and trades materials and may be able to provide you with what you need to purchase upgrade modules. Otherwise, you can wait for the next day when the requested planetary material changes, hoping you have an abundance of it.
Destiny 2 Concentrated Mattergems Farm
Concentrated Mattergems are a quick way to quickly gather upgrade modules, but they come with an important caveat: Her buff is removed when an upgrade module falls.
The truth is that any elite enemy, those with orange or yellow health bars, have an extremely high chance of dropping an upgrade module.
The buff is consumed once the module falls, and you can use another Concentrated Mattergem immediately afterward. Combine this with areas with large concentrations of Elites, like the dark area under the Cosmodrome or the start of the Prophecy Dungeon, and you can quickly farm large numbers of upgrade modules.
The Concentrated Mattergems have another catch. They are purchased and cost from the Eververse Store in the Tower 200 Bright Dust each.
There are currently very few ways to earn Bright Dust, which is also used to purchase cosmetic items. The only other currency accepted in Eververse is silver, which is purchased with real money, so beware if you’re considering spending all your Bright Dust on Concentrated Mattergems.
Destiny 2 Crucible Rewards
Lord Shaxx, Manager of the Crucible, is another reliable source of upgrade modules. However, instead of selling them, he prefers to give them away as a reward for leveling up in the Crucible.
Reach other Rank 4 in Valor (unranked crucible) or shame (Rank Crucible) gets you a slap on the shoulder from Shaxx and three upgrade modules. These ranks are resettable, allowing you to re-earn the packs many times throughout the season as long as you put your time into the Crucible.
Destiny 2 Season Rank
Every destiny 2 Season brings with it another 100 seasonal ranks to climb, with various prizes along the way, including upgrade modules. Just keep playing and earn XP to increase your seasonal rank.
There are a few more modules locked behind the paid Season Pass, but most are free for any player who takes the time to level up.
Destiny 2 Mod Squad
Ghost, your little sentient light companion machine, has a handy non-existent trick up its sleeve to help you find upgrade modules.
The Modularity line of mods awards upgrade modules upon the successful completion of various in-game activities.
There is a modularity mod for Crucible, Gambit, which requires wins against other Guardians to activate, and Vanguard, which can drop after any successful Strike or Nightfall Strike.
Equipping these mods requires your Ghost to be using a fully mastered Ghost Shell. The Modularity mods cost four Energy to equip, limiting the number of other mods you can use at once.
There is no penalty for switching to different Modularity mods that fit your current activity, but note that the mods are listed as “Fragile”, meaning they will expire after Season 15.
Upgrading your gear is essential to making your Guardian as effective as possible in battle against Earth’s enemies. Finding upgrade modules in Destiny 2 is the best way to ensure you’re always ready for the next battle.
