Tips for defeating Shadow Mewtwo in Pokemon GO
Shadow Mewtwo Attacks
Shadow Mewtwo has two potential fast attacks: Psycho Cut or Confusion, both are Psychic-type attacks. It can have one of six charged attacks:
- Focus Blast (Combat)
- clairvoyant (psychic)
- thunderbolt (electric)
- Flamethrower (Fire)
- Ice Beam (Ice)
- frustration (normal)
That’s a wide variety of movement types to choose from. This is one of the hardest parts when it comes to getting ready to battle an original Legendary Pokemon.
Shadow Mewtwo weaknesses
Shadow Mewtwo is only weak against three types:
This is helpful as several Dark-type Pokemon have appeared as part of the Rising Shadows event.
You should also avoid bringing Psychic-type Pokemon into battle, as Shadow Mewtwo is resistant to it. Fighting-types will be at a disadvantage, as they’re weak to psi attacks and Shadow Mewtwo is fight-resistant, meaning they could end up being a dead burden on your team.
The best shadow mewtwo counters
When choosing your team, be sure to focus on Pokémon with attacks that get the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB). I know Fairy-type Pokemon can stand up to a super-effective Dark Attack, but it loses both STAB damage and Psychic type resistance.
- Mega Gengar: Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball
- triangle: bite, brutal swing
- shadow cursola: Hex, Shadow Ball
- Mega pinsir: Insect Bite, X-Scissors
- shadowhoundoom: growling, foul play
- We heard: growling, foul play
If you don’t have either of these Pokemon, choose your strongest Dark, Bug, or Ghost Pokemon with attacks that use STAB.
A unique mechanic of Shadow Raids is that as the fight progresses, the Shadow Pokemon will become enraged. This also applies to Shadow Mewtwo. Using a Purified Gem will help calm the Pokemon and lower its Attack and Defense. If enough Purified Gems are used, the enraged state may be completely removed. This can be extremely useful against Shadow Mewtwo.
