Samba de Amigo: Party Central Brings the Dance to Switch This Summer

Cult classic from Dreamcast Samba de Amigo seems to be getting a revival very soon. Announced as part of the Nintendo Direct stream, Samba de Amigo: Party headquarters will be released on Nintendo’s platform this summer. It didn’t show much information, but we did get a few seconds of gameplay.

Things don’t seem to be dramatically different from previous installments. If we had to guess, this will likely be similar to the Wii iteration of games Samba de Amigo. Since the Joy-Con is a decent replacement for the Wii Remote, it shouldn’t feel too out of place. Taiko no Tatsujin works well enough on console for example.

This is revealed by the details of the eShop party headquarters will feature 40 songs from “the world’s most popular genres” and this additional DLC will be released after launch. This could mean that the audio tracks are from the original Samba de Amigo and Wii installments will be made available.

There will also be an online option called World Party Mode. You can take 12 amigos to the dance floor and compete against eight players in a global competition. A number of customization options are available to your amigos, giving you the ability to add your personal touch to each one. It seems like pretty standard but welcome stuff.

Samba de Amigo: Party headquarters is scheduled for a June 2023 release. It’s unknown if this will remain exclusive to Switch in the future or not.
