The sons of the forest The backpack isn’t the most important item in the survival horror game, but it does make swapping certain items a bit faster. But you won’t be able to do that if you don’t know how to open and use it. The game doesn’t actually tell you how to do any of these things, nor do you have to do them as part of the tutorial. In fact, you can also add and remove specific items to somewhat customize what’s available at any given time.
Opening and closing your backpack in Sons of the Forest

- If you’re playing with a mouse and keyboard on PC, open your backpack by holding down “I” (the inventory key). To close it, just press “I”.
- If you’re playing with a controller or gamepad, hold down the D-Pad to open the backpack. You press the D-Pad to close it.
When you pull up your backpack, it will appear on the right side of the screen and you can use items attached to it, such as backpacks. B. yours, quickly select Manual, your axe, the slingshot or stones and sticks. But how do you add or remove items from this quick selection menu?

How to add and remove items from your backpack

For adding and removing items from your backpack in sons of the forestyou need to open your larger inventory (slash item crafting menu) by pressing “I” or by pressing the d-pad.
With your inventory open, you’ll find your backpack in the upper part of the screen, just to the right of the orange and black containers at the top. Hover over it and press LMB on mouse and keyboard or RT (or equivalent) on your controller.
This will move your backpack to the center of your inventory, the area where you typically craft items. Now hover over items attached to the backpack and press RMB or RT (as appropriate) to remove them. They go into your inventory. To add items, hover over them in your inventory and press RMB or RT (equivalent) to pocket them.
It’s worth noting that you can’t add every item you pick up on the cannibal-infested island to your backpack. Only items in your inventory that glow white around them can be added to the quick select bag. In a confusing decision by Endnight Games, at least at this stage of Early Access, you can’t use things like your GPS or flashlight. But you can add the whopping Modern Axe.
