As a newcomer to the series, I can understand why splatoon has built such a dedicated fanbase over the years. Now in its third iteration, Nintendo’s inked version of the multiplayer shooter still stands out as an anomaly in the genre. It’s an accessible, vibrant offering with game modes for every type of player.
I fell in love with each of the modes in its own way, but in the end I agreed with the consensus: the heart of splatoon is its multiplayer. Most notably, Nintendo’s commitment to nurturing the most expressive parts of its community is admirable. turn 3 is not an advancement — it is a refinement. And it’s a perfect place to get into the series for the first time.
Splatoon 3 Review: High Octane Squid Game
2015 Nintendo introduced WiiU players to Inklings — or Squid Kids, if you have to rhyme — and the novelty of inking, shooting, and swimming splatoon. It was a relatively simple proof of concept, but from 2017 switch sequel added many of the characters and game modes seen in turn 3.
This trip to Splatsville maintains the hyper-colorful aesthetic and jazzy-yet-rock attitude the series is known for. With three modes existing in their separate hubs (all easy to jump to from a main menu), turn 3 offers something for everyone interested in this genre. It feels like a throwback to the Xbox 360 and PS3 era of shooters.
Lawn mode remains the cornerstone of the splatoon multiplayer experience. A 4v4 mode where, at the end of a breezy three-minute round, the team that colored the most territory wins. This combination of high-speed team deathmatch and territory control is the main game mode. It’s also the most convincing.
While Nintendo has subpoenaed turn 3 With tutorials, Turf War’s brilliance lies in its simplicity and accessibility. It encourages players to have and play different strengths; You don’t have to be a splatting machine to be an MVP. Best of all, the brevity of these games keeps them tense and snappy, fueling that “just one more game” endorphin rush after each win.
Turf War is the only competitive mode outside of the ranked Anarchy Battles, which only unlock once you reach level 10 turn 2, maps come in on a set schedule, but Turf War remains the only casual mode. While I desperately wish there were ways to casually play other modes like Clam Blitz and Tower Control, Turf War isn’t stale yet.
This is partly due to the huge selection of creative weapons turn 3 has to offer. They’re all variations on about a dozen core types, ranging from old standards like the Roller and Splat Dualies to new friends like the windshield wiper-inspired Splatana. As a splatoon Newbie I was shocked at how different they all are in terms of shape, feel, And Function. turn 3 is a rare achievement when it comes to justifying (and making up for) great excess.
The main catch of the progression system is in the form of tickets which can be exchanged for new weapons. This steady clip of new loadouts is especially refreshing in the era of free-to-play shooters. It also keeps things from getting too overwhelming for new players.
turn 3The other two modes of are just as meaty and robust as its main attraction. Hero mode features an extensive campaign that can last up to 10 hours if you really want to delve into it. With splatoon 2 As your fellow agents, Callie and Marie must navigate through six islands that they overtake mario sunshineEsque Fuzzy Ooze to rescue Cuttlefish from his mysterious captors.
Each location has several short missions that will not only test your combat skills, but also your platforming and puzzle-solving skills. Some of these serve as easy tutorials, but many are challenging in their own right. At best, Hero Mode requires you to see it turn 3‘s tools in a whole new light, something that feels more important than just an introduction to multiplayer mechanics.
The sites are dedicated and contain various secrets and hidden routes. Some of the later overworlds have some really nice designs that I can’t spoil.
However, not every single kettle (as the levels are called) is the most fun or creative. Some lean a little too much on platforms, while too many others are just variants of running a shoot the targets obstacle course. But overall it’s worth seeing what the entire single player mode has to offer.
turn 2Salmon Run’s limited-time co-op mode has been turned into an official permanent mode Salmon run Next run. Wave-based co-op is still best with friends, but a metagame that pits you against an occasional giant salmon gives strangers a reason to stick together round after round. With a progression system that increases the difficulty once you think you’re a master, Salmon Run is a satisfying and challenging alternative to the other modes on offer.
One big change that’s hard to argue with is the new way Splatfests work. Now a three-way conflict, this particular turn 3 Events add a short window where you can participate in Tricolor Battles with three teams of different colors. This is certainly one way to make those events feel special, but it begs the question: why aren’t these battles in the game at all?
After five years, it’s easy to see that this kind of restructuring is the kind of new twist splatoon yearned for it. Nintendo’s tendency to present its best splatoon Ideas in these time-limited events is frustrating.
There are other new features on the fringes as well. You can save outfit loadouts (referred to as “fits”). splatoon jargon) now. fashion on splatoon is something to be taken seriously, especially since turn 3 adds a way to copy outfits from other players and buy them for yourself, which brings us to how much of a social experience it is turn 3 is – something that should come as no surprise to veterans of the series.
All of these modes are brought together in Splatsville, turn 3hub area. Here you can run from building to building and access every single mode. You can easily jump to almost anything from the menu, which is awesome, but it’s worth exploring Splatsville to see the Splatoon community. Just get used to the chunky, inconsistent 30fps in Splatsville versus the smooth, consistent 60fps for the rest of the game.
On the streets of the hub, you can see player outfits and graffiti messages in a social aspect splatoon this started in MiiVerse of the first game. These drawings are consistently impressive, fun, and respectful. turn 3The community of convinced me.

splatoon is Nintendo’s best new IP of the last two generations of consoles and turn 3 is the most sophisticated version of the concept to date. Although there are no new paths turn 3 is still a unique delight within the shooter genre. There are the typical Nintendo design quirks built into the online experience, but they don’t spoil the exciting battle loop at the heart of the game.
more accessible than ever turn 3 is an exciting, family-friendly mayhem for competitive and co-op gamers alike.
