The Sims 4: How to Fix Broken Mods

There’s always a chance your The Sims 4 Mods break after the release of a patch or expansion pack. This issue has increased since the recent introduction of the Infant Update and the grow together Expansion, breaking more mods than usual, leaving modded client players without swathes of their mod lists. How to remove broken mods for The Sims 4

Like most The Sims community recommends, it is best to disable your mods before a large content loss occurs. Although we’re past that now, remember to remove the game’s mod folder on the next big patch day to avoid conflicts.

Location of The Sims 4 mod folder

You need to know where to find your mods in order to remove them. You should look for the following directory if you installed The Sims 4 by default:

  • C:\[Username]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\MODS

replace that [Username] section with your windows username and you should find it there.

You can also use the folder above to test if individual mods are broken by removing a copy of all folders elsewhere and putting them back into the MODS folder one at a time to see if each works.

To remove broken mods you need to delete the folder for that mod. To completely delete the mod, you must do the same Delete the file named localthumbscache.package to prevent the mod from reappearing.

This file is located in C:\[Username]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4. You should also delete the files ending with .bufferbut don’t delete the directory itself to prevent deleted mods from reappearing.

If or if the mod gets an update to be compatible with the current version of the game, you can reinstall the mod.

The Sims 4: Where to see all broken mods in March 2023

The combination of Infant Update and Growing Together broke most of The Sims 4 mods due to life stage changes and new interaction options. While the community works to fix most of these, it will take time.
