This will give you the cold-resistant archaic warm greaves early on
The Great Sky Island sits high above Hyrule and as such there are areas of extreme cold that you must fight to gain access to shrines and other key areas. However, you can later purchase the full armor set with the Cold Resistance ability DeadK Story, on the first island there is a chest that contains a free pair Archaic warm greaves. Here you can find the equipment:
- Follow the main story until you complete it Gutanbac Shrine during the quest “The Locked Door”.
- Approach that Overhang with a tree trunk is just north of the shrine.
- Use the ascension ability climb through the overhang.
- Enter the hollow log and open the chest.
This chest contains Archaic Warm Greaves, your first-ever free piece of cold-resistant armor. It will serve you well before you can find a much better option later.
Snowquill Armor: How to Get Other Cold Resistant Gear
Once you have Archaic Warm Greaves equipped, Link will feel a lot more comfortable, but you’d still be missing two more pieces of cold-resistant armor. Luckily, you can buy the full package snow feather Armor later, including:
- Snow Feather Headdress (650 rupees)
- Snowquill Tunic (500 Rupees)
- Snowquill pants (1,000 rupees)
All three items can be purchased from the merchant at Brazen Beak in the southwestern part of the country Rito village, which lies between the Hebra Mountains and the Tabantha Border in the Central Hyrule region. A whole set costs 2,150 rupees but is definitely worth it.
Although all three pieces together prevent Link from freezing, you can improve the defense value of the Snowquill Armor at the Great Faerie Well with the following items:
- Level I: 3 Red Chuchu Jelly
- Stage II: 5 red chuchu jelly, 3 warm safflina
- Stage III: 8 Fire Keese Wing, 5 Sunshroom
- Stage IV: 10 Red Lizalfos Tail, 5 Ruby
Cook spicy food for cold resistance
I’ve also found that you can cook and eat spicy foods to gain natural resistance to the cold. Any type of meal that includes spicy pepper — or any other food item with the word “spicy” — protects against the cold. You can find Spicy Pepper when traversing the area up to the Gutanbac Shrine and in the Pit Caves. The more peppers you add to a recipe (up to five alone), the longer your cold resistance timer will increase. For example, four Spicy Peppers provide 10 minutes of cold resistance.
That’s all you need to know to quickly don the Archaic Warm Greaves cold-resistant gear The Legend of Zeld: Tears of the Kingdom. stay tuned for more Tears of the Kingdom Tips and Tricks article here.
