Please also note that this bug works on version 1.10 of the game.

How to Duplicate Bubbul Gems in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK).

The ancient Zora water works

To trick Bubbul Gems Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you need to unlock a specific location in the world: the ancient Zora Water Works. This is done by progressing further in the Regional Phenomena of Lanayru main quest.

The goal is to reach the point where a whirlpool is created in the middle of the lake, allowing you to dive down to reach a new location. The coordinates are: 3615, 0357, 0027.

Inside the ancient Zora Waterworks, solve the aqueduct puzzle until you can traverse most of the once-flooded area. In the back right part of the tower you will find a ruined bridge. There is also a tunnel in the upper part that leads to a cave.

How to Cheat Bubbulfrogs and Bubbul Gems

Like most caves in the game, this one also features a Bubbulfrog. The difference is that this area is ripe for an exploit. Here’s what we need to do:

  • Stand a short distance from the Bubbulfrog.
  • Shoot and kill it.
  • As soon as it falls to the ground, roll Ascend. Link will be able to penetrate through the ceiling of the cave.
  • After about four seconds, press the B button to cancel the process.
  • You end up back in the cave, but there’s a surprise waiting for you there. The creature you killed earlier has already dropped a Bubbul Gem. However, a second creature has also appeared.

With the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Using the Bubbul Gem and Bubbulfrog dupe method, you can repeat these steps until you have 20 Bubbul Gems on the ground (i.e. 20 kills). This is because if you drop more than 20 items, some of the previous items will disappear. While you won’t earn infinite items, you’ll still save a lot of time by not having to explore 20 extra caves.

Causes of the exploit and other locations

For those wondering why that is Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom The Bubbul Gem dupe method can only be performed in this specific cave. I believe that’s because (a) it counts as a separate zone when walking through the whirlpool, and (b) it’s part of a main quest, making it a special place.

But what if you had already killed the Bubbulfrog here? Unfortunately I don’t think there are other suitable places for this error. I tried the other hot tub in Lake Hylia and this trick didn’t work. Also, I tested the quicksand pits in Gerudo with no success.

However, if you haven’t killed the Bubbulfrog here and still want to use this trick, you’ll need to disable automatic updates to avoid patches that fix the problem. You can do this from the Nintendo Switch home screen -> Settings -> Auto update: Off.
