You can sell opals to a dealer for 30 rupees each. This is what I did with my opals. This allowed me to stock up on arrows early in the game when I felt like I wasn’t getting a lot of rupees or finding a lot of arrows.

Your other option is to use opals as backup material, either by dropping them on the ground and attaching them to your weapon, or by pulling out your bow and Merge them with your arrows. gems inside Tears of the Kingdom Add elemental damage when used on Fuse. Opals, in particular, add water damage to your attacks when used as backup material, as well as an additional +1 damage.

As nice as the extra damage from fusing opals can be, I’ve had enough other backup materials that weren’t worth that much to the sellers that I don’t regret the decision to sell them. What you end up doing with opals depends on whether you want more rupees or water damage.
